    Frequently asked questions

How much can I compress without visible loss?

For photos, a quality of 70–80 in WebP or JPG usually looks the same as the original at normal viewing size while cutting the file by half or more.

Why did my PNG get bigger?

PNG is lossless, so re-saving it as PNG doesn't shrink it. Choose WebP or JPG output, or lower the max width, to reduce the size.

    Does resizing help?

A lot. A 4000-pixel phone photo shown 1200 pixels wide on a website carries more than ten times the pixels it needs. Set a max width of 1600 or 2000 for web use.
